If Prince William and Kate Middleton’s first child is a girl, she will be queen, thanks tohistoric changes adopted this week by the 16 nations in the Commonwealth Realm that recognize the Queen of England as monarch. Scrapping a 300-year-old law, the nations unanimously agreed to give women equal preference to succeed the throne for the first time, and also threw out old rules that barred the monarch from marrying a Catholic.
