The economy added 169,000 jobs in August and the unemployment rate down to 7.3 percent, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Analysts had expected 180,000 jobs to be added.
The report also had big revisions. June and July were revised down 74,000 less jobs than previously reported, with June from 188,000 to 172,000 and July from 162,000 to 104,000.
Retail, health care, food services, and business services all saw big additions. Retail added 44,000 jobs, health care 33,000, food services 21,000, and business services 23,000. The public sector also added 17,000 jobs.
