Rep. Keith Ellison Rips The ‘Republican No Jobs Agenda’

In fiery floor speeches late yesterday, several members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus blasted Republicans in the chamber for failing to introduce a singlejobs bill since they took control. “Since the Republican caucus has taken over the majority, they haven’t put one jobs bill on,” noted Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN). “They haven’t done a poor job — they haven’t done anything.” Citing an estimate by CAP’s Scott Lilly which found the proposed, deep-cutting Republican budget will cost one million jobs, Ellison said:
These cuts are Republican answers for a job crisis that they created….Make no mistake about it, madame chair, we are concerned about the deficit. Two hundred billion dollars of it goes to interest on the debt. That money could be going to programs that help people. That help children, that help seniors, that can make and strengthen and improve our infrastructure in our country. But instead it goes to this massive debt built up by Republicans with their massive tax cuts to the rich, two wars, and big pharma giveaways. They created the problem. Now when we try to solve it, they want to put us back in the hole.
Watch it:
Earlier in the day, House Speaker John Boehner (R-OH) said that if the Republican budget resulted in a loss of federal jobs, then “so be it.” His remarks were quickly denounced by Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA): “Democrats do not subscribe to Speaker Boehner’s verdict that if jobs are lost in this Continuing Resolution, ‘So be it.’ Maybe ‘So be it’ for him. But not ‘So be it’ for the people who are losing their jobs.”
