As House Republicans prep for a battle over the health care repeal, one UFC fighter is offering a more literal approach. Ultimate Fighting Championship fighter Jacob Volkmann, who took down fighter Antonio McKee in a Mixed Martial Arts fight this weekend in Las Vegas, was asked by Fanhouse’s Ariel Helwani who he wants to fight next. “Things got…political” as Volkmann — who is a burgeoning chiropractor — set his sights on President Barack Obama. Why? Apparently “someone’s gotta knock some sense into that idiot”:
HELWANI: Ok so now you got a big win over a veteran. Who do you want next?
VOLKMANN: Doesn’t matter. [Clay] Guida. I don’t know. Actually, Obama.
HELWANI: Wow you’re calling out Barack Obama right now. That’s big. That’s ballsy.
VOLKMANN: He’s not to bright. He made a lotta…like the making home affordable plan and this health care plan, someone’s gotta knock some sense into that idiot.
HELWANI: Wow. This interview just took a turn into the whole political world. Are you a Sarah Palin fan? Please say no.
VOLKMANN: No. No. I just don’t like what Barack is doing. Because I’m a chiropractor, so I know the health care situation is not good but he’s making it worse.
HELWANI: This is the most I’ve ever seen you fired up.
VOLKMANN: Yeah, it’s irritating. Because I’m starting my own business and it’s not real easy when you’re actually giving insurance companies the power to decline you and not pay you.
Watch it (begins at 2:55):
The new health care law, of course, would actually do the opposite. The law not only helps prevent rejection of coverage but provides small businesses with more affordable insurance options. According to the American Chiropractic Association, the law even helps “advance the cause of the chiropractic profession.” But why let facts get in the way of misplaced aggression?
Still, if Volkmann is going for the most ignorant athlete title, he’s up against Baltimore Orioles slugger Luke Scott, who recently insisted the president is a communist who is destroying America and “was not born here.” While birtherism is ignorant enough, at least Scott wasn’t threatening physical harm to the President.
