GEORGE DUKE, a GRAMMY-Award winning composer, arranger, producer and keyboardist has passed. He succombed to chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
DUKE was one of the world's most prolific jazz legends who worked with a who's who list of artists. The list of artists he recorded with include AL JARREAU, JEAN LUC PONTY, CANNONBALL ADDERLY, BILL COBHAM, FRANK ZAPPA, DENISE WILLIAMS and STANLEY CLARK.
Here’s a clip of Duke explaining the concept behind his “Dreamweaver” album.
"We are all devasted by the sad news of GEORGE's passing," said MARK WEXLER, GM of CONCORD-TELARC LABEL GROUP. "He was a great man, a legendary, one-of-a-kind artist and our hearts go out to his family. George will be missed by all."
DUKE's final recording, "Dreamweaver," was released just last month, on JULY 16th on HEADS UP INTERNATIONAL, a division of CONCORD. The making of DREAMWEAVER occurred after his wife CORINE passed away last year.
GEORGE DUKE was 67. Funeral arrangments are pending.
