Black Unemployment Up To 16 %; 2nd Worst Month Under Obama

ATLANTA – Many African Americans are out of a job and keep asking themselves: “When will it get better and the unemployment rate dip?”

The Black unemployment rate is once again at more than 16 percent, the largest increase in six months and nearly matching that of the highest rate recorded for blacks during President Obama’s tenure, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

Black unemployment was at 16.1 percent for the month of April, which was the largest increase since November’s 16 percent. The highest rate, since President Obama took office, was 16.3 percent in August.


April’s rate was up from 15.5 percent in March, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. Overall, national unemployment was up to 9 percent from 8.8 percent, according to the U.S. Department of Labor.

President Obama has said he will not target job bills to a certain racial or ethnic group.
