REP. ANDY HARRIS BALKS AT BOEHNER DEBT CEILING PLAN BECAUSE IT HELPS POOR STUDENTS GO TO COLLEGE

As Speaker John Boehner struggles to find the votes for his debt ceiling plan that would lead to the “greatest increase in poverty and hardship produced by any law in modern U.S. history,” Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) is upset that it is insufficiently cruel to the most vulnerable Americans. Harris objects to a provision that provides $17 billion in funding for Pell Grants for low-income college students because he “really do[esn't] understand why we’re increasing spending in a bill supposed to be cutting spending.”
