Virginia County GOP Emails Picture Of Obama With Bullet Hole In His Head

Yesterday was Halloween, a day for children to take candy and (apparently) for the Loudon County, Virginia GOP to take a shot at President Obama. As the blog Too Conservative reported, the Loudon Republican committee sent out a “Halloween 2011″ mailer depicting President Obama as a zombie “with part of his skull missing and a bullet through his head.” The email invites recipients to a Halloween parade where “we are going to vanquish the zombies with clear thinking conservative principles and a truckload of Republican candy.”
The mailer also depicts Obama supporters and House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-VA) as zombies. The Republican Party of Virginia’s reaction was swift: “The disgusting image used today on a mass-email has no place in politics. Ever…The Republican Party of Virginia condemns the image and its use in the strongest possible terms.”
Virginia’s Republican Gov. Bob McDonnell called it “shameful and offensive” and is demanding those involved “to apologize for their actions, and to immediately ensure that such imagery is never used again.” The state GOP party is demanding that Loudon party stop using the image and issue an apology. Loudon Republican Party Chairman Mark Sell has yet to respond.
UPDATE
Loudon Republican Party Chairman Mark Sell has added his apology, calling the email “a light-hearted attempt to inject satire humor into the Halloween holiday.” The written statement says:
[We] deeply and sincerely apologize to the president and anyone who viewed the image if that was the impression that was left. The LCRC deplores any effort to display, suggest or promote violence against the president or any other political figure.
