'Warren Ballentine Show' Cancelled Following Charges in $10M Mortgage Fraud Case

Reach Media and Radio One have cancelled syndication of "The Warren Ballentine Show" following Ballentine's indictment by a federal grand jury. Chicago native and attorney Warren Ballentine -- as we reported previously -- is accused of taking part in mortgage fraud schemes between December 2004 and May 2006. "The Warren Ballentine Show" was heard in 37 markets nationwide, including on two stations in the Chicago area. Ballentine insists he's innocent and says he will fight the charges. Reach Media and Radio One recently combined their syndication companies with Ballentine's show among those in the new entity. As reported here, January 29, Ballentine -- who bills himself as the "people's attorney" -- was indicted by a federal grand jury for defrauding lenders by scheming with others to obtain nearly 30 bogus mortgage loans, according to the U.S. Attorney's office in Chicago. They claim it was a $10 million mortgage fraud scheme. Ballentine's Chicago-based radio program was distributed nationally by Syndication One. On the Facebook page for his show, Ballentine posted, "For the record I'm innocent. I made a standard fee on closings. In Illinois a buyers attorney doesn't handle any of the documents till closing so as this proceed u will see that I'm in this because I have a name. No big payday no knowledge of the paperwork. I know some may say everybody says their innocent. Well I am."

Timsomor Note:

I would listen to Warren's show all the time to a point. I would often hear him give hints of a pending problem he would soon face in regard to people bringing him down. I have also read about people having problems with "Debt Stoppers" which I believe is at the Heart of the charges. When I tried to find his show I later found out that it was cut from one internet station that I listened to a lot and moved to another which would hardly come in clear at times.

I am not sure of how this will turn out for him only that he started to remind me of another guy who I once followed who did not really mean any of the stuff he was promoting. Now, I am not saying this was Warren but something turned me away from him. All in all, he had good ideas like the other guy who I once followed, but everyone hears things that makes you wonder. As for him being the "Truth Fighter" I hope he is really telling it, as far as innocents goes.

An attorney out of Chicago and national radio show host for the Radio One Network has been indicted after being accused of defrauding lenders out of more than $10 million. The indictment has been announced by the US Attorney's Office, where Ballentine is being accused of working with others to secure mortgages that were later deemed to be fraudulent.

The indictment includes six counts, including bank and wire fraud. Each count with a maximum prison term of 30 years. He could also be fined up to $10 million dollars on every count. He is set to be arraigned on February 5.

Prosecutors claim that Ballentine owns a law firm in suburban Country Club Hills, but he lives in Durham, North Carolina right now.

Dr. Boyce Watkins, a Finance Professor who has appeared on Ballentine's show, says that people shouldn't judge until the evidence is presented.

"Mortgage fraud is a complex issue where anyone going through documents with fine tooth comb can come up with something that you might have done illegally. I think people should wait until the evidence comes out before passing judgment," said Watkins.

Watkins also admits that with Ballentine's strong financial activism in the black community, there are a lot of reasons that federal prosecutors might want to see him go away.

"I don't presume to know if Warren is guilty or innocent, but I do know that the city of Chicago is about as corrupt as they come, so anything is possible in this situation," he said. "I've seen a lot of people get into serious trouble for less-than serious offenses."

  1. SO THE BOMB IS DROPPED, ARAIGNED ETC, BUT NO TRIAL OR PRE-TRIAL DATE MENTIONED. MEANWHILE THE
NEGATIVITY GROWS IN THOSE THAT BELIEVE EVERYTHING THEY HEAR. WARREN WAS ATTEMPTING TO ALWAYS KEEP US INFORMED.THAT'S THE WORST THING A BLACK MAN CAN DO IN THE EYES OF BIG BROTHER.DESTRUCTION IS THE NAME OF THE GAME. UNFORTUNATELY SOME OF US FALL FOR IT AND THIS HAS BEEN WHAT HAS KEEPS US DIVIDED AND PITTED AGAINST EACH OTHER.

  2. I have not been able to find more on Warren as I stated in my notes, I once listened to the guy everyday. But, I did start to hear about things happening to people who used the company which he often pointed people to if they were have problems with their homes. When I decided to post a story here, I remembered reading and even some people calling his show on air with concerns about that product in which he pointed people too. Like I said I listened to him a lot. I purchased several products that he talked about on the show. From shirts to skincare stuff. I even made space on here to get people to donate to those who needed it and as part of his Black banks thing.

Most of that stuff the links went dead so I deleted them. I never posted this to down the man only to display what was heard and documented.

If he is vindicated and gets a new show I would still listen. Also, if your points were so important to you with all caps why post Anonymously? Still, that's your choice of how you post but I am just saying.

You said "Negativity grows in those that believe everything they hear."

What if I heard things from people who tried to use the program would that still be bad, or negative? The one thing I have learned is just because you see black faces and the illusion of blacks debating and talking about issues does not mean you will be included or respected as things go on. I just recently found this out by thinking the work I was doing was for a community but was really for an individual. When it was all said and done, it was said that I did not do anything. When the camera's and white people came around they were there and none of the people who did real hard work were ever mentioned.

This is the problem with this Warren thing, did he know things were happening, or were things done without him knowing about it. An old man once said, "There is nothing like receiving an ear shot compliment, but to be standing out of view and hearing what people really think of you can change even the most committed persons drive."
