TEXAS TO BEGIN SCHOOL YEAR WITHOUT NEW TEXTBOOKS

Due in part to a lack of funding, schoolchildren in Texas will begin classes in August without new textbooks. As part of a larger cost-cutting regime, a new law requires local schools to purchase textbooks through a statewide system. But delays in funding and implementation of the new system mean students will be stuck with old books for the first days of the school year.
