2 Bodies In Detroit River Found Missing Heads, Hands And Feet; Body Parts Also Discovered

DETROIT-- A group of early risers made the harrowing discovery Tuesday morning of a body missing hands, head and feet. And it wasn't long before officials found a second torso and several body parts near the scene.

U.S. Border Patrol agents found the first dismembered body at Fox Creek , a tributary of the Detroit River, around 6:45 a.m, according to the Associated Press. FOX 2 reports a group of fishermen also came across the body. U.S. Coast Guard officials then found a second torso in the river while making their way to the scene.

Of the two bodies discovered, said Detroit Police Sgt. Eren Stephens, one was male and the other was female.

Several hours after the first discoveries, Stephens said, body parts were recovered at a park on the river off Detroit's Alter Road. Hollis Fussell, a local fisherman, saw what appeared to be three legs, a circular saw and a suitcase and in the river, according to the Associated Press.

A DPD dive team recovered those body parts from the water around noon after marking their locations with GPS, the Detroit Free Press reports.

Time and cause of death have not been released. The dismembered limbs will be turned over to the Wayne County Medical Examiner while Detroit Homicide spearheads the investigation.
