WASHINGTON– Michelle Obama is rewarding 54 children with a visit to the White House for creating winning recipes as part of a healthy lunch contest.
The children will tour the White House vegetable garden and attend a kids’ “state dinner” on Aug. 20. Some of the winning recipes will be served.
The top recipes include a teriyaki salmon wrap, a garden chicken pizza and vegan Sloppy Joes.
More than 1,200 children ages 8 to 12 entered the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, which asked them and their parents to create nutritious lunch dishes representing each of the food groups.
The contest is a partnership with Epicurious.com and the departments of Education and Agriculture. A free cookbook with the recipes will be available online in August.
