Haitians Ask For DJ To Be Fired For ‘Haitian Women Have HIV’ Comment

Hot 97 DJ Cipha Sounds is in the hot seat after making an on-air comment that has local leaders and members of the Haitian community fuming, and calling for him to be fired.

The popular deejay, whose real name is Luis Diaz, enraged listeners when he said on Friday morning, "The reason I'm HIV negative is because I don't mess with Haitian girls."

Diaz, 34, of the Bronx, immediately apologized after the station was flooded with phone calls. Twitter and Facebook users were also slamming deejay, who is of Puerto Ricandescent.

Many initially thought his co-host, Peter Rosenberg, made the remark. But Diaz admitted that it was him.

"I made a stupid, tasteless joke that was a one-liner that was taken totally the wrong way," he said in an on-air apology. "I want to say sincerely that I apologize."

Diaz, who also deejays parties and has hosted shows on MTV, said during his apology that he does "nothing but rep for the Haitian people."

He continued, "I said something stupid that I'm embarrassed about."

But the apology wasn't enough for a coalition of Haitian community leaders who plan to rally outside of the Hot 97 headquarters on Hudson Street tomorrow morning.

Diaz, a 15-year veteran, one-third of the the morning show, "The Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg Show." The show, which airs from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m., also features on-air personality, K. Foxx.

Hot 97, a hip-hop radio has not returned calls for comment.
