Why StarTrek Has Always Been Color Blind To Me

One of my most favorite Scifi shows of all time is StarTrek.  Why, because even while growing up I could always see someone who looked like me in a Professional or Social Gathering on any of the many series that spawned from the original show.    This show only aired for four years, from September 1966 to June 1969.

But, believe it or not you could see a Black man as Captain, Commodore, and ensign. This was in the 60's now, and even if there roles on camera were brief, something like that had truly never been done before.   This is also the reason why I have collected Marvel comics since I was a kid.  Stan Lee, has always seen Black people in the many fantasy worlds he has created in the Marvel Universe.  D.C comics not so much in the beginning, but they did do some great things with the Green Lantern John Stewart who was Black.

However, that's an post for another day, but I have put in a link for those of you who have seen John Stewart and don't really know how he got his ring.   Anyway, StarTrek has always liked black people, and they put them in, without question.  Powerful position, some shows based in the future you may never actually see a black person.  Making you think what happened to us, are we extinct?

I could sit for days watching any of the StarTrek series or movies because seeing people who look like you makes you relax,  and you are able to get into the stories, which are some of the most complex and well written pieces of work you could ever see (IF YOU HAVE AN OPEN MIND).  With all the low level noise over Idris Elba playing a norse God in the up and coming film Thor, this just had me thinking. I began to think about a StarTrek Deep Space Nine episodes called, "Far Beyond The Star."  This is an episode you must see if you have never watched the show. I will not give out any detail I will post a short video of the actors taking about how powerful it was, but how it was just over looked when it came to winning awards.  Still in the times that a man is now allowed to do so much, racism will still see that you actual get so little.
