WASHINGTON – After a days-long delay, President Barack Obama is finally on his way to Hawaii for the holidays.
Obama had planned to head to his home state Saturday, but decided to stay in Washington while Congress worked on key legislative matters, including extending tax cuts for all income earners and repealing the military’s ban on gays serving openly. The White House gave just a few hours notice of the president’s departure.
Obama will join wife, Michelle, daughters Malia and Sasha, and dog, Bo, in Kailua, where they have been vacationing since Saturday. The president will have no public schedule while on vacation, though locals hope the first family will make a few stops around town as they have in past years.
The Obamas are expected back in Washington on Jan. 1.
