Hawaii governor seeks release of original Obama birth record

Hawaii governor Neil Abercrombie is sick of the Birthers. So sick that he is working with the state office that oversees birth records to release formal, official proof that Obama was indeed born there in 1961 according to a report in the New York Times.
Depending on how you look at it, the Birthers are either about to get what they want – or have all the wind knocked out of their anti-Obama allegations and become an even bigger laughingstock. Or both.
Abercrombie has personal stake in disproving Bithers
As a family friend, Abercrombie knows the Birther claims are bogus.
Abercrombie was an old college friend of Obama’s parents when they were students in Hawaii.
Abercrombie says the argument that Obama is not an American citizen disgusts him and insults the memory of his friends, the President’s parents.
Real Obama birth certificate should end controversy
Now he wants to prove once and for all that Obama is a natural born citizen of the United States, apparently by releasing the coveted holy grail of Birtherism: Obama’s long form birth certificate.
Depending on how you look at it, if Abercrombie is successful this is either a huge score for the Birthers or a huge debacle.
On the on hand, they have gotten an incredible lot of mileage out of undermining Obama’s citizenship.
No doubt, the Birther rabblings have consciously or subconsciously delegitimized this presidency in the eyes of many Americans.
On the other hand, Birthers have long begged for access to Obama’s original form birth certificate – which heretofore Hawaii has kept sealed by legal decree.
Current Hawaii law allows only the release of a ‘record of live birth’ but not the genuine form.
If Governor Abercrombie finds a way around those legal barriers and secures release of official authentic records from the vaults of Hawaii’s Health Department, Birthers may finally be able to get on with their lives and undermine the President in other, less crazy ways.
