Though you might not be able to tell it from the diverse and gender-balanced speakers list at the Republican National Convention, this years’ gathering of conservatives to welcome their new presidential pick is an almost entirely white affair. According to the Washington Post, just 2 percent of the delegates in Tampa for the convention are Black. That number isn’t a huge surprise, given Mitt Romney’s poor polling among the Black community — where he has roughly zero percent of the vote — but it reflects a poor long-term strategy for the Republican party in an increasingly colorful America. Republicans, at least, seem to recognize the problem. As Sen. Lindsey O. Graham (R-SC) told the Washington Post, “We’re not generating enough angry white guys to stay in business for the long term.”
